New airport in Phang Nga province
Anybody who has been to Phuket recently will understand just how busy the airports can be. As tourists arrive in such high volumes throughout the year it is no wonder the Airports of Thailand (AoT)’s are looking to introduce another airport to help assist travelers coming to Phuket and this the time they are looking to build this in the province of Phang Nga.
Phang Nga province is less than forty- five minutes’ drive from Phuket International Airport and a great location for an airport. Phangnga is not nearly as developed as Phuket province so it has plenty of space for runways and an airport building. Not only is it ideal from that side of things but it is very beautiful and host to some lovely beaches, mangroves, plenty of outdoor activities as well as a very peaceful and tranquil area surrounded by nature. This may encourage tourists to spend some time out here too before making their way to and from Phuket. This is also expected to help facilitate growing numbers of neighboring province Krabi and its airport as well as boost tourism numbers for places such as Ao Nang, Ko Lanta, and Krabi.
Under the plan, the new airport will be located in tambon Khok Kloi of Takua Thung district in Phang Nga and is expected to be completed by 2025. With a budget of around 60 million Thai baht, the project is set to start from 2020.
In terms of size, the AoT has yet to inform us as to how big the terminal will be and if this will resemble anything of the current Phuket airport as this will be one of the international airports, so we expect it to be similar in scale to assist with large volumes of travelers.
